IHS National STI Initiative

In October 2023, the Indian Health Service announced a national STI Initiative to address the syndemic. The STI Toolkit was developed by the IHS National Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee (NPTC), in collaboration with the IHS Chief Clinical Consultant in Infectious Disease and the IHS HIV/HCV/STI Branch.

The STI Toolkit includes the following:

  • Express STI Guide
  • IHS STI Treatment Guidance
  • Syphilis and Gonorrhea Field Treatment Policy

IHS invites federal, Tribal, and Urban Indian partners to use these tools as a comprehensive public health and clinical approach in promoting awareness, community education, prevention and harm reduction strategies, and in enacting access to care, using a systematic approach to STI screening, symptomatic testing, and contact tracing, and providing timely, effective treatment.
