Tribal Delegation Meeting: California Area Tribes
At the National Indian Health Board Annual Consumer Conference, IHS and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services held a tribal delegation meeting with the California Area Tribes. Here are pictures from the meeting:

National Indian Health Board 29th Annual Consumer Conference
I attended the National Indian Health Board (NIHB) 29th Annual Consumer Conference in Denver, CO. NIHB was also celebrating their 40th anniversary. Many participants mentioned that this was the best conference they could remember, mainly because the agenda included so many timely topics and relevant information. I provided an update on IHS progress on our activities to change and improve the organization and the services we provide, and was able to show some improved outcomes. Other federal partners held sessions at the meeting, and a significant portion of the agenda was devoted to information on the Affordable Care Act and all the work that Tribes are doing to ensure they benefit from the new law. I also was honored to help present the American Diabetes Association John Pipe Awards to the Cherokee, Choctaw, and Tohono O'odham Nation SDPI programs. Here are some pictures from the meeting:

Tribal Delegation Meeting: Cherokee Nation
In September, I traveled to Oklahoma to meet with the Cherokee Nation. We discussed their successful management of their health care programs, current issues, and how we can continue to strengthen our partnership with the Tribe. Here is a picture from the meeting:

Health Care Facilities Construction Consultation Update
As a follow-up to a previous blog posting in July on the IHS Health Care Facilities Construction Consultation, we have posted the 2011 Report to Congress on Estimated Need for Tribal and Indian Health Service Health Care Facilities.
