The IHS Maternal Child Health (MCH) program aims to increase access to safe, quality care for American Indian/Alaska Native pregnant women and children. When pregnant women are healthy and well cared for, newborns, children, and communities thrive.
Please use this site to learn about resources and to find care. For providers, use this site to learn about clinical guidelines, toolkits, and training opportunities.
New Resources: Pediatric Primary Care Toolkit and Obstetric Readiness in the Emergency Department (ObRED) – available now!
The IHS Maternal Child Health program has developed two new resources to assist sites with obstetric readiness and pediatric preventive care services:
The Obstetric Readiness in the Emergency Department (ObRED) Manual [PDF 3.5 MB] includes tools and training to help sites without immediate access to Labor and Delivery services provide safe care for pregnant and postpartum patients. The manual includes readiness checklists, clinical protocols, and education for simulation training.
The The Pediatric Primary Care Toolkit [PDF 1.8 MB] includes resources to help sites provide age-appropriate preventive care for children. The toolkit includes a site self-assessment tool, age-specific guidelines, checklists, and EHR templates, and resources for staff and families.
The resources were developed by a multidisciplinary team across eight IHS Areas and reviewed at urban and rural sites. The MCH team is also available by email if you have any questions.
