Transmittal Notice 25-04
BACKGROUND:
The purpose of this Transmittal Notice (TN) is to transmit a copy of the revised Part 3, Chapter 1, “Clinical Credential and Privileges,” Indian Health Manual (IHM). The revised policy is reissued to clarify the Area Chief Medical Officer’s responsibility listed in Section 3-1.2(A)(2), “Responsibilities.” The revised policy also updates the verification documents listed in 3-1.5(A)(10), “Medical Staff Credentials.” The policy is revised with no change in intent.
The policy and processes for clinical credentialing and privileging of licensed (registered or certified) practitioners (LPs) is one of the critical tasks of the Agency and is directly related to the quality of health care provided at Indian Health Service (IHS) facilities. This chapter will be used along with the IHS Clinical Credentials and Privileges Standard Operating Procedures Manual (a standardized instructional manual to create strong clinical credentialing and privileging requirements along with standardized, continuous, and verifiable processes, which decrease the potential for patient harm by verifying the professional education, training, licensing, current competence, and professional conduct of LPs). The Agency is committed to supporting its mission to raise the physical, mental, social, and spiritual health of American Indians and Alaska Natives to the highest level through standardized, high-quality, industry-based credentialing and privileging processes.

Remove Part 3, Chapter 1, “Medical Credentials and Privileges Review Process,” IHM, dated October 11, 2024, in its entirety and insert the attached copy of Part 3, Chapter 1, “Clinical Credentials and Privileges,” IHM, including the chapter Table of Contents in its place.
Log and file this Transmittal Notice in sequential order.
