Transmittal Notice 23-07
BACKGROUND
The purpose of this Transmittal Notice (TN) is to transmit a copy of the revised Part 3, Chapter 30, “Chronic Non-Cancer Pain Management,” Indian Health Manual (IHM). This chapter is revised in its entirety. The purpose of this chapter is to establish the Indian Health Service (IHS) policy related to the management of chronic non-cancer pain management among patients treated in the IHS facilities. This policy was established to minimize the adverse psychological and physiological effects of unrelieved pain, promote appropriate opioid prescribing, and avoid pain medication misuse that contributes to the opioid overdose epidemic.
