Technical Assistance

In addition to the Technical Assistance (TA) provided by Area Project Officers (APOs), TA is also provided to the DVP projects from Tribal Epidemiology Centers and the IHS Division of Grants Management.

Area Project Officers (APOs) serve as the first primary point of contact and provide TA and guidance to grantees consisting of Tribes, Tribal organizations, and Urban Indian organizations (UIOs). Tribal and Urban Epidemiology Centers serve as the TA Providers for Evaluation, and assist projects in each of the 12 IHS Areas and UIOs. They provide TA evaluation to establish baseline data related to DVP funded projects, assistance with establishing and revising project plans for local data collection, and TA to monitor trends on baseline data. TA Providers for Evaluation can also provide tailored TA via virtual site visits or in-person site visits (as funding permits). The IHS Division of Grants Management provides TA specific to the management and administration of IHS grants. A Grants Management Specialist is assigned to projects and provide grants-specific technical assistance including information regarding the project’s official Notice of Award (NoA), grant policies and procedures, cost principles, allowable and unallowable costs, direct costs, information on the GrantSolutions system, and carryover requests.
