Plans to Develop Desert Sage Youth Wellness Center - Hemet, CA
NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS:
The INDIAN HEALTH SERVICE (IHS) must construct, appropriately staff, and operate, a youth regional treatment center in each of the 12 IHS geographic service areas.*
Most California American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) youth are sent out of state for treatment (about 100 each year). Thousands of Native American youth in California are in need of residential care.
What we plan to develop:
- Located at 39990 Faure Road, Hemet; a half-mile east of Sage Road at Best Road
- Residential treatment center for AI/AN youth age 12-17
- Develop approximately 20 acres, former dry farming and residence
- Three new buildings; state of the art, eco-friendly (LEED Certified). 32 beds, five family suites, offices, behavioral therapies, cultural gathering, and common space
- Responsible environmental mitigation and land-stewardship
- Will employ 70 full-time federal employees with full federal benefits
- Mental health and medical care
- Chemical dependency counseling
- Family therapy
- Traditional healing services and cultural activities
- Academic and life-skills education
- Cultural activities
- Traditional arts and crafts
- Aftercare planning
