Description: For fall 2023, there are new vaccines, new recommendations and several anticipated potential changes that will impact adults and children. This session aims to provide the most up-to-date information to guide healthcare providers in decision making and implementation of new and routine vaccines, including influenza, Respiratory Syncytial Virus RSV), and COVID-19 commercialized vaccines.

The tools for responsible Syphilis testing, particularly the reverse Syphilis algorithm, are addressed, and a discussion on testing for Congenital Syphilis is presented. Upon completion, one should comprehend the following on Syphilis testing: how to use the available tools and interpret the results, timing of the testing to detect Treponemal and Nontreponemal antibody (RPR), and causes for false positives and false negatives.

Part 1: STI Case Management Collaboration

Description: Systematic case management and scheduled inter-organization case review are essential to solving the syphilis epidemic. The clinicians, public health nurses, and public health professionals at Tuba City Regional Health Care Corporation (TCRHCC), a 638 tribal health organization on western Navajo Nation, meet both the healthcare needs of individuals with sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and the public health needs of the community. To ensure this, TCRHCC holds weekly case review meetings with public health partners, tribal, county, state, and neighboring service units.

Outcomes/Objectives:

1. Identify both public health and clinical partners and roles to include in effective case management.
2. Apply the workflow of effective STI case review with assigned roles.
3. Provide effective community education and messaging on the prevention and early treatment of STIs.

Part 2: STI Field Treatment and Testing

Description: This presentation covers practical and programmatic aspects to facilitate implementation of testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections in non-standard settings by public health nurse programs.

Part I: White Feathers: When a family experiences a stillborn loss

Description:
Due to the rise in syphilis and congenital syphilis cases across the nation, providers including Public Health Nurses are seeing more cases of stillborns. A stillbirth, or fetal death, occurs when the fetus is delivered at 20 weeks or greater gestation with no signs of life. Stillbirth affects 1 in 160 deliveries in the United States. This presentation will review best practices in counseling for families who experience a stillborn loss and options for evaluation.

Part II: Addressing Sexually Transmitted Infections and Housing Insecurity within Special Populations: Shared Experiences from the Community Opioid Intervention Pilot Project

Description: This presentation provides an overview of shared experiences from the Community Opioid Intervention Pilot Project who have encountered public health challenges within their client population such as sexually transmitted infections and individuals with housing insecurities. Additionally, attendees are shown an example of an evidence-based sexual health targeted curriculum used on youth.

Outcomes/Objectives:
As a result of attending this activity, the healthcare team will be able to:

1. Apply new skills, insight and knowledge regarding STI follow up treatment in AI/AN communities for individuals who have housing insecurities and may have substance use disorder
2. Incorporate resources and curriculum to enhance culturally competent care for AI/AN individuals.
