On October 7-10, the Indian Health Service Division of Health Information Technology Modernization and Operations team visited the Lawton Service Unit including the Lawton Indian Hospital, Anadarko Indian Health Center, and Carnegie Indian Health Center. This pilot site visit began the journey for deploying the enterprise electronic health record solution, PATH EHR, at all three facilities. These visits were an opportunity to establish relationships built on collaboration, trust, and a shared understanding of keeping “Patients at the Heart” throughout the implementation of PATH EHR. The community welcomed the DHITMO team with a heartfelt opening led by Kiowa Nation elder Dorothy Whitehorse DeLaune. Her remarks set the tone of respect and partnership for the pilot site visit.
Throughout the visit, DHITMO leadership toured the Lawton Indian Hospital, Anadarko Indian Health Center, and Carnegie Indian Health Center. Lawton Service Unit serves more than 30,000 patients annually and provides a wide array of clinical services, including emergency department services, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, and behavioral health. These tours offered invaluable insights into the diverse communities the Lawton Service Unit serves and emphasizes how PATH EHR can improve health care services across the three facilities.
The team provided an in-depth overview of the vision and goals for the Modernization Program, as well as the opportunities for collaboration and engagement with our IHS, tribal, and urban Indian organization partners. The goal for this visit was to provide an opportunity for open dialogue between DHITMO and Lawton Service Unit leadership. A discussion around the current state of each facility allowed for a deeper understanding of each site’s service lines and operations. These discussions provided valuable insight to inform implementation and deployment planning activities.
DHITMO is looking forward to the continued partnership with the Oklahoma City Area Office and Lawton Service Unit as we pilot PATH EHR.

Health IT Modernization Awareness Survey The Health IT Modernization Program Awareness Survey intends to measure the effectiveness of the Program's communications, assess our partners' awareness and perception regarding PATH EHR, and determine tribal and urban partners' interest in actively participating in Program initiatives. The input you provide through this survey provides the IHS invaluable information to better understand the reach of our engagement efforts across Indian country and how we can continue to circulate information about the PATH EHR implementation.
