BACKGROUND:
The purpose of this Transmittal Notice (TN) is to transmit a copy of the Part 7, Chapter 7, "Performance Management Appraisal Program," Indian Health Manual (IHM). This chapter establishes the Indian Health Service (IHS) policies and procedures for planning, monitoring, developing, appraising, and recognizing the performance of all non-Senior Executive Service managers, supervisors, and employees of the IHS. The policies and procedures contained in this chapter will provide a mechanism for clarifying and communicating organizational goals and expected outcomes; identifying individual and/or team accountability; providing formal feedback; and documenting individual and team performance. It is one component of the on-going process of performance management, which also includes frequent informal feedback, recognition and awards, coaching, skills development, and appropriate corrective action.

Insert the attached copy of Part 7, Chapter 7, "Performance Management Appraisal Program," IHM, including the chapter Table of Contents, in its place after Part 7, Chapter 6, IHM. Log and file this TN in sequential order.
