TO:	PHS Agency Heads
FROM:	Director Office of Management
SUBJECT:	Authority for Designation of Notaries Public

Pursuant to the authority delegated to me by the Assistant Secretary for Health on January 22, 1979, I hereby authorize the PHS agency heads to designate officers and employees within their respective jurisdictions to serve as notaries public when it is determined that such service is required for the facilitation of department business.

Requirements and instructions for exercising this authority are contained in HEW Chapter l-50, General Administration Manual, and any PHS supplements thereto.

This authority may be redelegated.

This authorization is effective upon date of signature.
