Description: In this presentation, we will explore three principles to guide writing and design choices for materials created with a health literacy needs in mind. Materials designed to meet a range of health literacy needs are more likely to improve chronic disease management and increase the uptake of preventive services and behaviors. We will discuss high-impact design and writing strategies that improve readability, make materials easier to understand, and build health literacy.
Learning Objectives:
- Examine three principles that guide a health literacy approach to written materials.
- Apply design and writing strategies to create materials that improve chronic disease management and uptake of preventive services and behaviors.
- Employ writing strategies that improve readability at the word, sentence, and document levels.
